| After years of analog slotracing, SCX introduced a digital race-system in 2004. This is a newly designed system and because of this, has the best features. Let's have a look at digital racing and the differences compared to analog slotracing.

With analog racing each car is driving in it's own track (or slot) and the speed is determined bij a hand-controller which changes the voltage on the slot. More voltage means more speed. It also means that if you stop the car, the lights will be out.
With digital slotracing there is a continuous voltage on the slots. On this voltage, a digital high-frequent signal will be modulated, which contains information like: carnumber, throttle position, lights on/off, laptime, laptotal, fuellevel, etc. This signal is being decoded by a decoder in each car and the right amount of voltage is being send to the car motor and the lights. This opens the possibillity to race with more than one car on the same slot, change lanes/overtake (at changeover tracks), fuellevel dependant speed, refuelling in the pitbox, etc. With the SCX 'digital system' one can drive with max. 6 cars on 2 slots (or more). Before starting the race, one can choose it's own pitbox-strategy, by chosing the amount of fuel at the start of the race. Starting with less fuel means more speed, but also earlier returning to the pits. If you don't refuel when your running out of fuel, the cars will start to stotter and eventually will come to a standstill on the track. The race will be over for this contender. The track can be expanded with chronometer(s), lapcounter(s), etc. At the moment there are a lot of car models available in different colours, amongst which a real safety car with working hazard-lights. It's a really great hobby, garanteeing hours and hours of fun, especially with family and friends.
